Experiencing Lenggries

Lenggries is located in the region of the “Isarwinkel” in the county of Bad Tölz in upper Bavaria. The village is bordered by Tyrol (Austria)  and offers many possibilities for active and sportive holidays, as well as for a recreative and relaxing vacation. From spring to autumn hiker, biker, mountain-biker, hang-gliders, paragliders, kayaks and rafters find good conditions to live out their passion. Swimmers will find nice beaches along the river “Isar” or at the lakes close by like the Walchensee, Sylvensteinsee, Kirchsee, Starnberger See, Kochelsee or Chiemsee, just to mention a few. Secret tips for swimming are the moor-lakes in the county of Bad Tölz – witnesses of the last ice-age.

In Lenggries and the surrounding there are plenty of cycle-paths like the “Via Bavarica Tyrolensis”, which passes through Lenggries and leads to the county Tyrol in Austria.

A cable car will take you up to the top of the mountain Brauneck, where you can enjoy a breathtaking panoramic view. If the weather is fine, you can see Munich in the North and the mountain Großglockner in the south-east. Another suggestion is a hiking trip or just a car-ride to the “Eng-valley” in Tyrol. This alp-village is located at 1000 m above the sealevel in the protected habitat Karwendelgebirge in Austria – you can reach this very precious place in 45 minutes by car.

In winter you can reach the rock-pothole of the Eng by cross-country skies. But you don´t have to drive that far, because Lenggries itself also offers 42 to 112 km slopes in the area around and nearby. There is also a 2 km illuminated “night slope” running at the Brauneck. The winter-sports-center of the Brauneck offers 34 km of down-hill skiing-slopes  and 20 lifts.

The winter sports center Brauneck is mainly a ski paradise for children but also adults can rush downwards with all kind of levels of difficulties.
Beside the 6 km downhill slope to Lenggries-Wegscheid (medium level of difficulty), there is a black slope (highest level of difficulty) to Lenggries that is 4 km long, overpassing 800 m of altitude.

In the evening you can enjoy various cultural events in the village and the neighbourhood.

For shopping-fans or soccer fans (FC Bayern München) the Bavarian capital Munich is the perfect meeting point. Other touristic attractions are the historical center of Bad Tölz, the open air museum of Glentleiten, the lake of Tegernsee, the center of handcrafted violins  Mittenwald or the Franz-Marc -museum in Kochel. You can also visit as a one-day trip the famous castles of Linderhof, Neuschwanstein and Herrenchiemsee, as well as the “Mozart-city” Salzburg.

But most of all you should enjoy the tranquility and relaxing atmosphere of the luxurious holiday house. And if you need a real kick you can test yourself in the out-door high rope center Isarwinkel in Lenggries or the indoor climbing center of Bad Tölz, diving in the lake  Walchensee, the casino of Bad Wiessee or the golf club of Bad Tölz.

A poem about Lenggries says: On the shore of the river Isar there is a village like a fairy tale Lenggries, the houses very pretty, the people with a special humor, fresh alpine air to breath, a soft wind out of the woods, everybody so nice, so that people from the big cities will be amazed.

Also in winter a fantastic destination
